Most of the nerves supplying the abdominal
and pelvic viscera do not synapse in the paravertebral chain. Insead they
are carried to the prevertebral ganglia where they
synapse. What
is the name given to the nerves that carry the fibres from the paravertebral
chain to the prevertebral chain?
The cervical
part of the sympathetic chain is found running along the prevertebral region
and consist of the:
superior cervical ganglion (1)
middle cervical ganglion (2)
inferior cervical ganglion (3)
1st thoracic ganglion (4)
Notice that the cupola of the lung extends up into the root of the
neck (5).
